PORTLAND — Add another obstacle to driving on the city peninsula in the next few weeks.

The Portland Water District on Tuesday said starting Thursday, May 5, it will be replacing nearly 400 feet of water main on York Street near the intersection with High Street. The project is expected to last up to three weeks and will require a southbound traffic detour.

Commuters, especially those approaching the Casco Bay Bridge to South Portland, are urged to seek alternate routes.

The project joins several others likely to cause travel woes over the next several weeks on Franklin Street, Commercial Street, Middle Street, High Street, Temple Street, Spring Street and State Street.
