Two political newcomers went head-to-head Tuesday to fill a two-year term on the Yarmouth Town Council.

Robert Waeldner defeated Joan Dollarhite 2,557 to 1,484 in the race for the seat vacated by former council Chairman Steve Woods.

Waeldner lives in Yarmouth with his family and has a law practice in town. He is a mentor at Yarmouth schools and has served on the boards of the Yarmouth Chamber of Commerce and Yarmouth Little League.

Dollarhite is a legal assistant at the law firm Norman, Hanson and DeTroy and a parent-teacher organization board member.
