YARMOUTH — The School Committee met Thursday, July 23, with new members and a new superintendent.

Superintendent Judy Paolucci, formerly of Rhode Island, moved into her new home June 30 and started work as the school chief July 1. Chairman David Ray has returned to the committee, and new members Craig Wolff and Andy Tureff have joined the group.

“The first School Committee meeting went well,” Paolucci said. “But there is a lot of work to do, like setting ground rules and scheduling meetings.”

She said there is usually less to report during the summer, and said she has been busy getting settled.

One personnel issue Paolucci said the committee discussed was the departure of Catherine Glaude, principal at William H. Rowe School. The committee is planning a search that, according to Paolucci, will be conducted both internally and externally. There is no replacement lined up at this time, she said, but there will be an interim principal for the start of the year. Glaude has been principal at Rowe School for four years.

“(Glaude) is leaving in a very organized way,” Paolucci said. “I am confident the start of the school year will be very smooth.”

Paolucci said the committee also recognized Kim Spencer for receiving the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science.

The committee heard a report from Carol Kinney, director of business services, about summer maintenance and reviewed dates to meet with the Town Council.

In the month she has been in Yarmouth, Paolucci said she has found Yarmouth to be a “wonderful place.”

“The district has such a dedicated staff and the teachers are already in the schools preparing for the start of the year,” she said. “I am happy to be here.”

The next School Committee meeting will be Thursday, Aug. 21, at 7 p.m. in the Log Cabin on Main Street.
