YARMOUTH — Schools in Yarmouth are closed on Tuesday because of power outages at three of the town’s four schools.
In Regional School Unit 5, Pownal Elementary School is also closed due to a power outage. All other RSU 5 schools are open.
Power outages cause by Hurricane Sandy were scattered along the Freeport coast near Flying Point and South Freeport, according to police. Princes Point and West Main Street neighborhoods were also without power.
Line crews were out just after daybreak in Yarmouth on Tuesday near the intersection of Princess Point Road and Gilman Road, where Hurricane Sandy knocked down a tree that blocked the road and took down power lines. The linemen said they had been working into Monday night when high winds forced them to delay until morning.
