YARMOUTH — The Police Department will collaborate with other Cumberland County communities to offer a 10-week Citizen Orientated Policing School starting Wednesday, Sept. 16. The classes will be held each Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. at the various participating law enforcement agencies.

Some of the topics will include the role of the police officer, Maine’s criminal and civil laws, dealing with the mentally ill, domestic violence, diverse ethnic groups and juvenile justice.

The program is intended to give an overview of what it is like to be an officer, but is not a training program. The department is accepting applications for the COPS program now through Aug. 15. Applications are available at Town Hall, 200 Main St.
