YARMOUTH — Police Officer Michael Pierce has been promoted to sergeant.

Pierce began his law enforcement career with the Arlington County (Virginia) Police Department for six years, before joining the Yarmouth Police Department in 2011.

“Mike’s new position is part of the Police Department’s transition plan for 2018. I’m anticipating several retirements to be announced in 2018, so I’m preparing in advance for those,” Chief Michael Morrill said Dec. 21, adding that he isn’t yet prepared to announce those retirements.

Morrill said Pierce “maintains his focus and direction when faced with a demanding situation.”

Pierce said in a Dec. 25 email that the promotion is a professional milestone he is proud to have achieved.

“I look forward to transitioning to this role. It will give me a voice in the direction of the agency and afford me the opportunity to be a mentor to new, young officers,” Pierce said.
