YARMOUTH — The Parks and Land Committee on June 6 will host an information session to get input on the Riverfront Woods Preserve, a 24?acre property the town is purchasing for conservation in partnership with the Royal River Conservation Trust.

The property, owned by Steve and Greg Dugas, is east of the Royal River, bound by the 22-acre Hilda Barker Preserve and the 35-acre Sligo Road Reserve. By purchasing the land and connecting the two town-owned properties, the trust hopes to create a corridor for trails and protect a half mile of Royal River shoreline.

On May 17, the Town Council unanimously appropriated more than $87,000 from the town’s Property Acquisition Reserve to complete the purchase.

RRCT Executive Director Alan Stearns last week it will likely take a few months to close the acquisition, since $110,000 in grant funding from the Land for Maine’s Future Board awarded last November is still pending.
