YARMOUTH — The Fire Department has received a $40,500 grant from the Maine Fire Service Institute.

MFSI is a department within Southern Maine Community College that partners with local fire departments to train firefighters. Grants, which totaled $200,000, were also awarded to fire departments in Auburn, Bangor, Ellsworth, and Hollis.

Grants will be used to repair and maintain existing facilities where departments train MFSI students. Yarmouth trains students at the town’s transfer center on East Main Street.
