Portland and South Portland police and fire departments, county and state emergency agencies, the U.S. Coast Guard and private entities carried out mock search-and-rescue operations throughout the day June 5 in the Fore River during the Portland International Jetport’s tri-annual full-scale emergency training exercise. The scenario of the Federal Aviation Administration-required drill was response to a plane crash in the Fore River just south of the Veterans Memorial Bridge. Northbound lanes of the bridge were closed for 12 hours during the drill.
