Marcia Wood, who took over a middle-of-the-pack Scarborough girls’ lacrosse program in 2005 and led the Red Storm to the pinnacle four times, has stepped down as coach, she announced Tuesday. Wood, who had a record of 111-34 in 10 seasons and won the Class A championship in 2006, 2010, 2011 and 2012, said she was stepping down for personal reasons.
“I have no regrets,” said Wood, who teaches math and coaches varsity field hockey at Freeport High School. “We were a family. We overcame a lot in those years, but the girls prevailed. I’ve loved watching former players play in college, see them get married and have babies. It’s been nice to be a part of their lives.”
Scarborough athletic director Mike LeGage thanked Wood for her time with the program.
“Scarborough Public Schools and the Scarborough athletic department appreciate Coach Wood’s hard work and efforts with our student-athletes and the girls’ lacrosse program,” LeGage said. “We respect Coach Wood’s decision to step down and we wish her only the very best.”
