FREEPORT — About 40 Habitat for Humanity volunteers, most of them women, will raise the walls of a duplex unit on Hummingbird Lane Friday, May 9, in recognition of the seventh annual National Women Build Week, which runs from May 3-11.

The build will go from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and feature a construction skills training session administered by Lowe’s, which sponsors National Women Build Week.

The duplex is part of an eight-unit complex planned off West Street by Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland.

Habitat for Humanity’s National Women Build program recruits, educates and encourages women to advocate for affordable housing in their communities. More than 13,000 volunteers nationwide are expected to partner with 300 Habitat affiliates to help build affordable housing units this week.
