PORTLAND — Police are searching for a white male they believe stabbed a 33-year-old woman Sunday night at Congress Square Park.

Police Cmdr. James Sweatt said the stabbing occurred around 9:53 p.m. The unidentified victim was taken to Maine Medical Center and treated for injuries considered to be non life-threatening, Sweatt said.

The suspect was last seen walking east in the area of Congress and Free streets. He was described as being between 45 and 65 years old, from 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet tall, and weighing 150 to 190 pounds, Sweatt said.

The suspect was wearing a brown, baggy shirt, gray pants, and dark sneakers. He was described as having gray or graying hair, with a gray beard.
