PEAKS ISLAND — A woman was critically injured early Monday, July 5, when the Jeep she was riding in hit a stone wall and flipped over.

Jessica Sherman, 30, was pinned under the vehicle, according to Portland Police Sgt. Troy Bowden. She was taken from the island to Maine Medical Center with critical injuries.

The driver of the Jeep Wrangler was Sherman’s twin brother, Jeremy. He has been charged with operating under the influence and aggravated reckless conduct. Jeremy Sherman is a resident of Peaks Island. Police could not confirm Jessica Sherman’s residency on Tuesday.

Bowden said speed and alcohol were factors in the accident. He said the Jeep hit a stone wall on Seashore Avenue shortly after 1 a.m. Monday morning, then flipped over. He said police have not ruled out more charges against Jeremy Sherman.
