PORTLAND — Read Street between Bell Street and Canco Road will be reduced to one lane with alternating traffic on Thursday, Sept. 16, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. during training exercises for emergency responders.

Westbound traffic on Baxter Boulevard will be detoured through Payson Park to Ocean Avenue and Vannah Avenue at the same time, the city said in a press release.

The road closures are due to the Portland Fire Department’s annual Weapons of Mass Destruction exercise. This year’s drill, called “Operation Leaking Drum,” will be a response to a hazardous pesticide leak caused by a chemical truck accident on Read Street.
