SOUTH PORTLAND — The annual WinterFest will be held Jan. 26 and 27, offering a skating party, cook-off challenges and cardboard sled races. 

The Mill Creek Skating Party begins the festivities on Friday, Jan. 26, from 6-8 p.m., with hot chocolate and cookies served, as well as fire pits to help warm skaters (and anyone else). The park is between Broadway, Hinckley Drive, Ocean Street and Cottage Road. 

On Saturday, Jan. 27, from 8-10:30 a.m., a pancake breakfast will be served and a bluegrass and folk music concert will be put on at the South Portland Community Center. 

The rest of Saturday’s events will be at the Wainwright Recreation Complex, 125 Gary L. Maietta Parkway, starting with a chili/chowder challenge at 11:30 a.m. 

A figure skating demonstration, as well as ice skating races, are also part of the Jan. 27 schedule and will begin at 2:30 p.m. 

Horse-drawn carriage rides will be offered from 1-4 p.m., and fireworks will start at 6:30 p.m.
