Just when it was picking up steam, the winter sports season takes a momentary pause for the holidays with local teams continuing to make their mark.

Boys’ basketball

Morse’s boys’ basketball team continues to turn heads. The Shipbuilders improved to 5-0 after a 44-43 home win over Gardiner last week. Morse (third in the Western Class B Heal Points standings at press time) goes to Waterville Friday and hosts Camden Hills Monday.

Brunswick was 3-2 and second to defending state champion in the Eastern A Heals after losing, 57-39, at Oxford Hills last week. The Dragons go to Brewer Friday and visit Bangor Tuesday.

Mt. Ararat was 3-2 and third after a 54-45 home win over Mt. Blue (Shyheim Ulrickson had 19 points) and a 47-46 loss at Lewiston. After going to Edward Little Friday, the Eagles play host to Cony Monday.

In Western D, Hyde takes a 3-0 record into the new year. The Phoenix is at Seacoast Christian Jan. 4.

Girls’ basketball

On the girls’ side, Brunswick’s off to the best start, sitting 4-1 and third in Eastern A after a 49-22 home win over Oxford Hills last week. The Dragons play at Brewer Friday and visit Edward Little Jan. 2.

Mt. Ararat dropped to 0-5 and 13th in Eastern A after a loss at Mt. Blue (54-23) and a setback at home to Lewiston (42-31). The Eagles host Edward Little Friday and visit Cony Monday.

In Western B, Morse was 1-4 and 14th in the Heals after a 49-38 loss at Gardiner. The Shipbuilders go to Waterville Friday and host Camden Hills Monday.

In Western D, Hyde takes a 1-2 record and the No. 10 ranking into a game Jan. 4 at Seacoast Christian.

Hockey

On the ice, the Brunswick boys improved to 3-2 and fourth in Eastern A after a 3-2 overtime win at Cape Elizabeth Saturday. The Dragons host Poland/Gray-New Gloucester Thursday of next week.

Mt. Ararat/Lisbon is 3-2 and fifth after a 5-2 home win over Bonny Eagle and a 4-1 loss to Edward Little. The Eagles host Cony/Monmouth Friday and play at Cony/Monmouth on Jan. 4.

On the girls’ side, Mt. Ararat is 2-5 and sixth in the East Region after a 14-0 home loss to Leavitt/EL. The Eagles play at Leavitt/EL Jan. 4.

Brunswick fell to 1-7 and sixth after a 5-0 home loss to Falmouth last week. The Dragons return to action Jan. 6 at home against Portland/Deering.

Swimming

Morse’s boys’ swim team beat Lewiston last week, 112-58, while the girls also defeated the Blue Devils, 108-61.

Wrestling

Mt. Ararat’s wrestling team took part in the Cony Duals last weekend. The Eagles beat Winslow (48-23), Madison (60-12), Oxford Hills (42-27) and Gardiner (41-36) and lost to Cony (59-21).

Morse dropped its most recent match, 48-24, to Nokomis.
