A new year has arrived and the winter sports season is back in swing. Here’s a glimpse.
The Brunswick boys’ basketball team took a 7-0 mark (and the No. 3 ranking in the latest Eastern A Heal Points standings) into Tuesday night’s game at Cony. Saturday’s scheduled home game with Erskine Academy was postponed by weather to Jan. 18. The Dragons were home with Oxford Hills Thursday, visit Mt. Ararat Saturday and welcome Edward Little Tuesday.
Mt. Ararat (4-3 and eighth in Eastern A) was supposed to host Lewiston Saturday. That game was postponed by snow to Monday of next week. The Eagles were at Edward Little Tuesday, went to Morse Thursday and host Brunswick Saturday.
Morse (1-7 and 12th in the standings) had Saturday’s home game with Edward Little postponed to Thursday of next week. The Shipbuilders were home with Mt. Ararat Thursday, go to Oxford Hills Saturday and welcome Lewiston Tuesday.
Hyde (2-1 and seventh in Western D) returned to action Wednesday at home versus Old Orchard Beach. Friday, the Phoenix go to Gould. Saturday, they visit Sacopee. Monday, Hyde hosts Hebron.
On the girls’ side, Morse is 7-1 and third in Eastern A. The Shipbuilders game at Edward Little Saturday was postponed until Monday. Morse was at Mt. Ararat Thursday and hosts Oxford Hills Saturday.
Mt. Ararat is 4-3 and fourth in the region. The Eagles’ home game with Lewiston from Saturday was moved to Monday. After going to Morse Thursday, Mt. Ararat hosts Brunswick Saturday.
The Dragons are 5-2 and fifth in Eastern A. Their game at Erskine Saturday was moved to Jan. 18. After hosting Cony Tuesday and going to Oxford Hills Thursday, Brunswick hosts Mt. Ararat Saturday and visits Edward Little Tuesday.
In Western D, Hyde is 0-3 and 15th in the Heals. The Phoenix were at Old Orchard Beach, go to Hebron Friday and Sacopee Saturday and go to Rangeley Wednesday of next week.
On the ice, the Brunswick boys improved to 4-2 Monday night with a 4-2 home win over Portland. The Dragons (sixth in Eastern A) are idle until Monday when they host Scarborough.
Mt. Ararat earned its first win last Wednesday, 4-3, in overtime, over Windham. The Eagles (12th in Eastern A) hosted Skowhegan Thursday, go to Windham Saturday and play host to Edward Little Monday.
On the girls’ side, Brunswick lost 2-1 at home to Portland to fall to 2-9-1. The Dragons (sixth in the East Region) were at Falmouth Thursday and go to Yarmouth Saturday.
Mt. Ararat swept an indoor track meet with six other schools last week. Brunswick competed against Belfast, Gardiner and Waterville and both the boys and girls finished first. Both teams return to action this weekend.
In the pool, Brunswick will host Cony and Mt. Ararat Friday and Morse is home against Edward Little.
In recent wrestling results, Mt. Ararat enjoyed wins over Cony (44-27), Gardiner (58-24), Skowhegan (45-33) and Lincoln (72-12).
Morse defeated Gardiner (42-28), Brewer (57-18) and Winslow (66-18) and lost 45-32 to Erskine.
Brunswick senior Eliza Halmo drove to the hoop for two points during the Dragons’ 40-32 home win over Cony Tuesday night.
Dragons sophomore Becky Champagne let a shot fly from the corner Tuesday night. Brunswick improved to 6-2 with its victory.
