SOUTH PORTLAND — Wilmot W. Wells, 80, died Feb. 17 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House.
He was born in South Portland on Nov. 6, 1928, son of Chase and Beatrice (Hazlett) Wells.
He graduated from South Portland High School in 1947.
He attended Northeast Business College before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1952.
On Oct. 2, 1954, he married Beverly Ann DeMarino of South Portland.
His career was spent with Shell Oil Co., which later became Koch Industries. He retired after 45 years of employment in 1990.
As an active member of St. John the Evangelist Church, he served as an organist for 49 years until last year.
He loved having family gatherings and traveling. His favorite hobby was woodworking in his workshop, where he would spend hours making items for family and friends.
He is predeceased by his parents and his sister Louise Bickford.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Beverly of South Portland; his sister Carol Woodsum and her husband Donald of Cape Elizabeth; children, Gregory Wells and his wife Susan of Wesley Chapel, Fla., Jeffrey Wells and his wife Kimberly of Windham, Brenda Roy and her husband Ray of Scarborough, Donna Perron and her husband David of Somersworth, N.H.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held last week.
