PORTLAND — William T. Gannon, 85, died Jan. 15, at Gosnell Hospice House, Scarborough, with his loving family was by his side.

Gannon was born in Portland, April 6, 1928, the son of James H. and Angela M. Gannon. He attended local schools and graduated from Portland High School, class of 1946.

On Sept. 5, 1949, he married Eleanor F. Mulherin at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland.

Gannon worked many years for Cook, Everett & Pennell. He then went to work for the New England Telephone Company as an equipment installer and later retired from Verizon Telephone. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.

He was a long-time communicant of St. Pius X Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years; daughter, Anne M. and husband, Kenneth Clarke, of Standish; son, James T. Sr. and wife, Suzanne P. Gannon, of Cape Elizabeth; three grandchildren, James T. Gannon Jr., Jennifer M. and Stephanie L. Clarke; and sister, Margaret A. Doherty, of Cape Elizabeth.

Visiting hours were held Jan. 17, at the Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Pius X Church, Portland, followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
