SCARBOROUGH — William D. Krantz, 65, of Scarborough, died April 1 at his home, surrounded by his family.
Krantz was born Oct. 20, 1949, in Hartford, Connecticut, to Arthur and Antoinette “Toni” (Maffucci) Krantz. William married Elizabeth Stone on April 5, 1969.
Krantz was a gifted musician and songwriter, and continually put others before himself. He was active in social causes such as Children’s International, served as a hospice volunteer, and mentored a young man at the South Portland Correctional Facility.
He also participated in Walk for Life, Tour de Cure and other events and groups that helped people in need. Above all else, Krantz was known as a generous and big-hearted man who was devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren.
He was a communicant of St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, and also attended Mass at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, in Portland.
Krantz was predeceased by his father, Arthur Krantz, and a brother, Howard Krantz.
He is survived by his mother; wife, Elizabeth (Stone) Krantz, of Scarborough; sons, Jason Krantz and wife, Sharon, of Middletown, Connecticut, Christopher Krantz and wife, Katie-Lyn, of Lewiston, and Andrew Krantz and wife, Amanda, of Westbrook; and grandchildren, Nicholas, Zachary, Anthony, Margaret, Charlotte and Greta.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Wednesday at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church. Burial followed at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to Hospice of Southern Maine, 180 U.S. Route 1, Scarborough, ME 04074.
