PORTLAND — William Bernard Troubh, 78, of Portland, died Nov. 8, surrounded by family.

He was born in Portland in 1935 to Maurice and Sadye Brickman Troubh. He was raised on Sherman Street and graduated from Portland High School, the University of Maine at Orono and received a law degree from University of Maine School of Law. He married Nancy Jane Shaw of Sanford on April 13, 1967.

Troubh was a founding partner of the Portland law firm Troubh Heisler. In addition to his long-time practice of law, he was a compassionate public servant who led with honesty and integrity. He served multiple terms as City Councilor and was mayor of Portland in 1974-75 and 1983-84. Troubh loved Portland and was actively engaged in civic causes. Through his visionary leadership, he was instrumental in the development of the Portland Waterfront, Portland Sea Dogs, Cumberland County Civic Center and the Portland Ice Arena.

He always enjoyed time with his family and friends who looked forward to seeing his warm smile. His special times included fishing on Thompson Lake, golfing at the Portland Country Club, spending summer afternoons at Hadlock Field and watching the Red Sox. Above all, he was a dedicated, loyal and loving husband, father and grandfather to his family. No matter how great or small the circumstances he was always there for support and guidance.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; sons Kenneth, and wife, Stacy, Jed, and wife, Bonnie, Mikael, and wife, Helena, and Thomas, and wife, Natalie; grandchildren Jared, Jessica, Samantha, Zoe, Alexander, Max, Hannah, Jacob and Isabelle; brother Raymond and Jean; and sister Charlotte and Kevin.

A funeral service was held Nov. 11, at Temple Beth El, Portland. Burial followed at Beth El Cemetery.
