Waynflete School, coming off a solid winter sports campaign, recently held its Winter Sports Award night and honored several top athletes, giving Players’ Awards, which were voted on by members of the team.

The Flyers boys’ basketball team, which reached the Western Class C semifinals for the first time in a decade, gave its Players’ Award to senior Joe Veroneau.

The junior varsity squad gave a Players’ Award to Thomas Spagnola.

The freshman winner was Joseph Newlin.

The girls’ basketball team won 16 games and advanced to the semifinals. Senior Liz Lewis was given the Players’ Award.

The JV Players’ Award winner was Leigh Fernandez, who also saw ample time on the varsity team.

Swimming fielded a team for the first time in decades. The girls were second at Southwesterns and placed third in Class B. Ellen Silk was given the Players’ Award.

The girls’ Nordic ski team was third in Class C this year. Chloe Rowse won the Players’ Award.

The boys’ Nordic squad finished fifth in Class C. Josh Espy was given the Players’ Award.
