YARMOUTH — Wayne Joseph Chaisson, 71, died in hospice care on Dec. 30, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer for several years.
Chaisson was born Feb. 20, 1943, the son of Joseph D. and Ruth L. Chaisson. He grew up in Yarmouth and attended Yarmouth schools, graduating from North Yarmouth Academy in the class of 1961. He went on to attend Michigan State University.
From the pet raccoon he cared for in high school to his most recent dog and constant companion, Skipper, Chaisson was a longtime animal lover. He was also known as an avid reader and a self-taught photographer of nature.
Chaisson was predeceased by his father in 1989.
He is survived by his mother, Ruth, of Yarmouth; sister, Janice Seabury and husband, David, of Yarmouth; brother, Donald Chaisson and wife, Mona, of New Gloucester; son, Paul Chaisson, of Arizona; daughter, Monique Chaisson Williams and husband, Robert, of Arizona; three grandsons, Quinn Chaisson, Blaise Williams and Aiden Williams, of Arizona; a niece, Elizabeth Seabury; a nephew, Michael Seabury; several aunts and uncles, many cousins and his loving partner, Loraine Bernstein.
Interment will be in the spring at Holy Cross Cemetery, in Yarmouth.
Arrangements are under the direction of Funeral Alternatives, in Yarmouth.
