SOUTH PORTLAND — The Bug Light Festival, sponsored by South Portland-Cape Elizabeth Buy Local, will be held Saturday, Aug. 29, at Bug Light Park.

Nearby, the Maine Seaweed Festival will be held Saturday at Southern Maine Community College, at 2 Fort Road.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the festival at Bug Light Park will include local food vendors, informational business booths, children’s games, a bouncy house, face painting, a wooden pirate ship, and music by the ’80s cover band Girls Just Want to Have Fun. Free valet bicycle parking will also be available.

“It’s a really nice place just to spend a few hours, (and) an opportunity to come together as a community to showcase local business,” Buy Local President Amy Lainoff said.

From 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at SMCC, a variety of informational and interactive activities will be offered, including a kelp farming workshop, a seaweed cooking demo, seaweed pressing and seaweed story sharing.

Seagrass, Andrea Olsen, Blue Northern, and The Arrowsics will provide music throughout the day.
