BRUNSWICK — Warren Low Blackwell, 84, died May 9 after a brief illness.

He was born on Jan. 6, 1925, in Portland, a son of Earl P. and Carolyn Louise (Crawford) Blackwell.

He attended Yarmouth schools and graduated from North Yarmouth Academy.

After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army and served as a medic during World War II.

When he returned home, he married Patricia Ordway.

He operated a moving company and later moved to Hartford, Conn., to work with family as an estimator until he retired in 1987.

Upon his retirement, he and his wife moved back to Brunswick.

He was very active with the First Parish Congregational Church, and served on many committees.

He had a life-long passion for woodworking and built several pieces of furniture for the church, members, family and friends.

He is survived by his daughter Ruth Horwitch and her husband Philip of Freeport; his son David Blackwell and his wife, Sherry of Lisbon; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Nancy Faatz of Cumberland and Joanne Conley of Casco.

Services will be private.
