SCARBOROUGH — Walter O. Davis, 83, died Nov. 5 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House after a long illness.

On Dec. 1, 1925, he was born in Springvale, a son of Rosie and Hardy Davis.

He graduated from Bates College with a bachelor’s degree in physics and math.

In 1948 he married his college sweetheart, Lois MacKinnon, and started his 40-year career with General Electric as a financial budget manager and federal tax accounting consultant.

During this time they had two children, Randy and Scott, and he was active in Boy Scouts and church work.

In 1987 he retired and he and his wife moved to Southport Island. In retirement he helped small businesses grow by volunteering for SCORE in Augusta and Coastal Enterprises in Wiscasset.

In 1990 he and his wife bought a townhouse in Arizona where he volunteered with the IRS/AARP tax program and loved the desert golf courses. They spent six months in Arizona and six months in Southport until 2001, when they began spending their time in Maine at Piper Shores in Scarborough. In 2006 he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and subsequently they made their home at Piper Shores year-round.

He was predeceased by his sister Marion Buzbee of Tampa, Fla., and his brother Emory of Connecticut.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lois; two sons, Randy of St. Paul, Minn., and Scott of Bridgeport, Conn.; his beloved granddaughter Abigail of Roseville, Minn.; and nieces and nephews.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at a later time.
