YARMOUTH — Walter F. Herdrich Jr., 78, of Falmouth, died peacefully Sept. 17 at Coastal Manor Nursing Home after a 10-year battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Herdrich was born May 24, 1936, in Pontiac, Michigan, the only child of Dorothy (Barber) and Walter F. Herdrich. He grew up in Birmingham, Michigan, and graduated from Michigan State University in 1960.

He worked for 31 years as a senior buyer for the Buick Division of General Motors, and later did consulting work for 12 years before retiring at age 67. He and his wife, Carole, then moved to their lake home in Grayling, Michigan, and wintered in Bradenton, Florida, for five years.

Herdrich is survived by his wife, of Falmouth; son, Dwight, and wife, Lauren, of Falmouth; son, Craig, of San Diego; and three grandchildren, Zachery, Sophia and Noah, all of Falmouth.

The family extends special thanks to the staff of Coastal Manor for the loving care they provided for the more than two years Herdrich spent there.

A funeral was held Sept. 19 at Lindquist Funeral Home, with interment at Foreside Community Church Cemetery, in Falmouth.
