BRUNSWICK — Friends of Casco Bay is recruiting volunteers to help the environmental organization monitor water quality at selected sites around the rim of Casco Bay.

A five-hour training session will be held April 11, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Southern Maine Community College’s Marine Science Center.

Friends of Casco Bay is looking for so-called citizen scientists to conduct water sampling, particularly in the Brunswick and Harpswell regions of Casco Bay. The training is hands-on. At most sites, new volunteers will partner with veterans to monitor the bay at 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. on 10 selected Saturdays from April through October.

Volunteers must be age 16 or older, however parents and children can work together in teams. Interested volunteers should visit Friends of Casco Bay at cascobay.org or contact Peter Milholland at pmilholland@cascobay.org or 799-8574.
