SOUTH PORTLAND — Virginia Robinson Ownbey, age 3 months, died peacefully on Nov. 10 as a result of sudden infant death syndrome. She was born Aug. 15 to Dr. Micah Ownbey and Dr. Mary Casey Murphy, of South Portland, and was the baby sister of Iris Maria Ownbey.

In her short time, Ginny Ownbey brought love and joy to her entire family. She offered many smiles and snuggles to all around her, especially to her parents, sister and the family’s faithful Labrador retriever, Homer.

Besides her immediate family, she is survived by grandparents, Ray and ShruDeLi Ownbey, of Salt Lake City, Utah, Mary Michaela Murphy and Paul Berkner, of Rome, John Alsop and Janice Stuver of Cornville, and Richard Beck, of Rome; and her great-grandmother, Augusta Alsop, of Old Lyme, Connecticut. Ginny also leaves behind aunts and uncles: Henry Beck, of Waterville, Ellen Alsop, of Boston, Johnny Alsop of Skowhegan, and Corinne Alsop of Irvine, California. In addition, she is survived by numerous great-aunts, -uncles, step-uncles and cousins.

The family would like to thank the colleagues of Dr. Ownbey and Dr. Murphy at Maine Medical Center for their incredible efforts and compassion.

A memorial service was held Nov. 15 at The First Congregational Church, in South Portland, followed by a reception.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ginny’s memory may be made to the Ebola Children’s Relief Fund through SavetheChildren.org.
