YARMOUTH — Virginia P. Crosby, 78, died peacefully on March 13, with her family beside her.

She was born Feb. 6, 1937, in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, and attended college in Rhode Island. There she met her husband, Rufus “Red” Crosby. After marrying, the couple lived in Laconia, New Hampshire, and began raising their six children, Lenny, Al, Annette, Linda, David and Scott.

In 1968, the family moved to Maine, where Virginia became a nurse and worked at St. Joseph’s Manor in Portland. Later, during her retirement, she volunteered for 10 years as a foster grandparent on the neonatal unit of Maine Medical Center. Crosby also served as president of the Women’s Eagles Auxiliary Club, and was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Portland.

In her free time, she loved taking family photos, baking and spending time with her 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The Crosby family would like to thank the staff of Coastal Manor of Yarmouth for their gracious and compassionate care.

A private family service will be held in the spring at Lake View Cemetery, in Wolfeboro.
