HARPSWELL — Virginia M. Lucas, 82, died March 12 at her home surrounded by family and friends.

She was born in Harpswell, Oct. 26, 1927, a daughter of Elton and Gladys Gott Pinkham and attended Harpswell and Brunswick schools.

On March 3, 1945, she married Paul R. Lucas in Brunswick, and moved to Beacon Falls, Conn., where they lived for 36 years before returning to Harpswell in 1990.

For 28 years she worked for the State of Connecticut at the Southbury Training School.

Her hobbies included sewing for family and friends, and flower gardening.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Paul of Harpswell; two sons, Dwight Lucas of Harpswell and Jerel Lucas of Warsic, N.Y., and three daughters, Paulette Canonico of Brunswick, JoAnne Gaglione of Kingsland, Ga., and Martha Hermance of Brunswick; two brothers, C. Philip Pinkham and Lloyd Pinkham of Harpswell and two sisters, Beatrice Moody of New Sharon and Laura Wallace of Cundy’s Harbor; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held at a future date to be announced.
