BATH — Violet Towne Fitzgerald, 92, died peacefully Feb. 1 with her family by her side.

Born in Dover-Foxcroft on Aug. 24, 1918, a daughter of Charles and Susie (Ames) Towne, she attended school in Skowhegan and graduated from Skowhegan High School in 1938.

On June 19, 1938, she married Walter B. Fitzgerald and made their home in Bath. 

A dedicated caretaker of her children, as well as her nieces and nephews, there was nothing she wouldn’t do to make sure that her children had everything they needed.

She had a passion for cooking, and loved playing the piano, gardening, and sewing.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Walter, a daughter, Jean McLuer Wiese, a brother, Wilson Fitzgerald and his wife Eunice, brothers-in-law, Elmer Bowen and Andy Robinson, a sister, Geraldine Fitzgerald and a sister-in-law, Mildred Brennen.

Surviving her are her four children, Linda Rice and her husband Harvey of Bowdoinham, Wayne Fitzgerald and his wife Bette of Portland, Gary Fitzgerald of Bath, and Mark Fitzgerald and his wife Ginger of Richmond; two brothers, Benjamin Fitzgerald and his wife Margaret, and Emery Fitzgerald and his wife Barbara, and two sisters, Madeline Robinson and Golden Salisbury and her husband Walter; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held in the springtime.
