BATH — Violet Juanita Waggoner, 90, of Bath, died at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough with her family by her side.

Waggoner was born Feb. 2, 1924, in Monterey, Tenn., the daughter of Richard and Angeline Bledsoe. She married James Waggoner on April 5, 1945, in Baltimore, Md. He died in April 1957 as a result of a plane crash at Brunswick Naval Air Station.

During World War II, Waggoner served in the U.S. Navy’s division of Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service. Later, she owned and ran a beauty salon in her home for 20 years, and worked part-time at Morse High School and the Curtis Memorial Library. Waggoner was a member of the Foursquare Church for many years and also a longtime member of the American Legion.

She enjoyed sewing, gardening and cooking. She especially loved baking for family and friends, and when she cooked there always seemed to be enough food for 20 people. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with family and friends. She loved the simple things in life and will be greatly missed.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, James Waggoner; a son, James D. Waggoner; a brother Richard Bledsoe, his wife Yolanda and two sisters, Faye and Mary Bledsoe.

She is survived by her brother Carl and wife Ruby Bledsoe; son Paul D. and wife Donna Waggoner, of Brunswick; daughter Barbara Jean and husband Chuck Bush; daughter-in-law Luisanna Waggoner; and a number of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 23, at Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal St., Brunswick. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at the funeral home with Pastor Charles Nace officiating. Interment will follow at noon on Tuesday in Maine Veterans’ Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta.
