PORTLAND — The University of Southern Maine signed a new agreement with Iceland’s Reykjavik University

The memorandum of understanding adds formality to the relationship between the schools, now entering their second year of exchanging students.

Ari Jonsson, Reykjavik University’s rector, said in a press release that Iceland needed to have a strong connection to the United States to give students the opportunity to study here and gain experiences to bring back to Iceland.

USM President Glenn Cummings also praised the agreement in the press release, saying it will create internships and visiting professorships, and will give students real-world experiences to build on classroom work.
