FREEPORT — Ursula Cleopatra Roberta Yearwood Cobbs, 86, of Freeport, died Oct. 28, at Freeport Nursing Home in Freeport.

She was born Oct. 21, 1927, in El Callao, Venezuela, daughter of Danley and Josephine Yearwood.

She left Venezuela at the age of 5 with her family and moved to Curacao, Suriname and later moved to Haiti where she lived for two years. She graduated from Guantanamo High School in Cuba and later attended and graduated from tailor/ seamstress school.

She married and had her children in Cuba. In 1958, Cobbs moved to Washington, D.C., where she lived for three years before moving to San Diego. She then settled permanently in Brunswick.

In 1965, Cobbs went to work at Regional Memorial Hospital and Parkview Memorial Hospital as a nurse’s assistant. She was employed from 1968 to 1971 at Giant Department Store. She worked in the Brunswick Naval Air Station Tailor Shop for nine years prior to opening her tailor shop, Suzie Q Tailor Shop, in Brunswick. 

She was predeceased by a son, Enrique Ricardo Cobbs, who died in 1958; granddaughter Tyme Neshea Myers, brother Alfredo Yearwood; and sister Juanita DelCarmen.

She is survived by two sons, Sylvester E. Cobbs Jr., of Brunswick and Ernesto Fernando, of Portland; two daughters, Belita Velizco, of Bath, and Diana Yagrudes, of Portland; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; nieces including Cynthia Stafford, of North Carolina; and several  nephews.

A memorial service was held Nov. 2 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Brunswick, with Rev. Carolyn Eklund officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 27 Pleasant St., Brunswick, ME 04011, or to the Soup Kitchen at St. Paul’s Church.
