SOUTH PORTLAND — Bail was reduced and four city residents face Feb. 19 court dates after an alleged Dec. 26, 2012, robbery at Mallside Plaza.

Meadow Collins, 19, of Soule Street; her mother, Elizabeth Collins, 52, of Latham Street; Gabriel Sobczak, 18, of Haskell Avenue, and Justin Fletcher, 38, of Grand Avenue, each face Class A robbery charges for their roles in the alleged robbery and assault of a 19-year-old Saco man who was attempting to refund or exchange a cell phone he sold to Meadow Collins.

The co-defendants are also barred from contact as conditions of their release.

Bail was reduced Friday in Cumberland County Unified Criminal Docket in Portland from an initial $100,000 for each to $750 cash for the Collinses and Fletcher and $500 for Sobczak.

The phone sale occurred Dec. 25, according to an arrest affidavit filed by Police Department Sgt. Steven Webster. He said Meadow Collins responded to a Craigslist ad for the phone, was unhappy because it did not work and suspected it was stolen.

The affidavit said Elizabeth Collins agreed to meet the victim at 3 p.m. on Dec. 26  at the shopping center on Maine Mall Road. The victim told police he offered Elizabeth Collins a refund or anther phone, but was then allegedly surrounded by four men, including Fletcher and Sobczak.

Webster said Fletcher punched the victim twice before the man could flee. He was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland by his mother, who had waited nearby. He was treated for cuts on his head and called police while in the hospital. The other men alleged to have gone to the plaza have not been charged in the incident.

When arrested later on Dec. 26, Sobczak told police there was no intention to rob the victim. Sobczak and Meadow Collins were found with the phone and two $100 bills allegedly taken after the assault.

Court documents also included printed text messages from Meadow Collins to a friend that indicated the attack was planned.
