PORTLAND — A public forum will be held tonight at 6:30 at Guild Hall, 307 Congress St., to give parents of Hall Elementary School students more information about logistics, scheduling and options for transportation to Cathedral School.

It was announced late Friday by the School Department that Hall Elementary students will resume classes on Tuesday morning at Cathedral School, 14 Locust St., because laboratory tests on air quality and other environmental conditions at Hall are not finished.

Hall, at 23 Orono Road, has been closed since Sept. 17 because of a fire in the building’s ceiling. Firefighters were able to quickly contain the early morning blaze, but there was significant water damage to the building.

Hall serves 465 students in grades one through five.

“Cleanup from the Sept. 17 electrical fire at Hall has progressed well. However, we have not received the final results from environmental tests,” Superintendent Emmanuel Caulk said in a prepared statement Friday. “We are erring on the side of caution in case any additional measures need to be taken. Our first priority is the safety of our students and staff.”

Portland Recreation will continue to offer full-day child care at Riverton School on Monday for Hall students already enrolled in the before- and after-care program. Parents may drop children off starting at 7 a.m. and pick their children up by 5:30 p.m.
