PORTLAND — A 24-year-old Kittery woman was killed Sunday when she was hit by a pickup truck on the southbound Maine Turnpike near the Falmouth town line.

Aeriel Rodriguez was struck at about 7:15 p.m. by a pickup truck driven by Michael Hawk, 42, of Lewiston. Rodriguez was attempting to flag down assistance for a flat tire, according to a news release from Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland.

Police initially could not identify Rodriguez because she had no identification on her or in the car.

The crash closed the southbound lanes for about two hours.
