FREEPORT — A Bangor man was charged with robbery Thursday after he and woman were involved in a car crash on Interstate 295 Wednesday afternoon following yet another pharmacy robbery in Yarmouth.

According to the Yarmouth Police Department, Dylan Libby, 21, entered the Yarmouth Rite Aid pharmacy on Route 1 and allegedly handed the pharmacist a note demanding prescription drugs Wednesday at about 3 p.m. Although Libby did not display a weapon, police said he indicated he had one in his possession.

While fleeing the pharmacy, Libby was confronted by a police officer at gunpoint. Libby managed to slip into his black Mitsubishi, locked the doors, and allegedly smashed his car into the officer’s patrol car before driving onto northbound Interstate 295 with 18-year-old Madeline Damon as his passenger.

A high-speed chase ensued, eventually reaching speeds of 100 mph, according a police press release. Libby rolled his vehicle when he attempted to take Exit 22 in Freeport, police said.

Damon managed to crawl out of the vehicle after the accident. Libby allegedly tried to flee on foot, but was apprehended by police, according to the statement.

Libby and Damon were both listed in fair condition at Maine Medical Center Thursday morning, according to a nursing supervisor at the hospital.

Police have charged Libby with robbery, eluding a police officer and violation of conditions of release. Damon was not charged with a crime as of Thursday afternoon.

The pair recently moved to Bangor from North Yarmouth, according to Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

A Maine State Police canine and handler searched the area around the crash.

The on- and off-ramps at Exit 22 northbound were shut down for several hours.

The robbery was the third pharmacy robbery in Yarmouth since December.

On Dec. 19, 2012, $5,000 worth of drugs from the Hannaford Bros. pharmacy in Yarmouth was reported stolen.

Two days later, a man stole “synthetic narcotics” from the Yarmouth Rite Aid. A $2,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to a conviction.
