BATH — United Way of Mid Coast Maine is looking for new funding partnerships with local nonprofit agencies.

The organization is accepting applications until Friday, Nov. 12, for partnerships with agencies that strive to improve education, health and financial stability.

“We continue to reach out to the community to ensure that we are making progress on (United Way’s 23) community goals and we welcome new partnerships and encourage agencies that are making progress toward these goals to inquire about our funding process,” said Glenn Hutchinson, United Way chairman.

There are two steps in the process for receiving United Way funding for a two-year cycle starting July 1, 2011. New agencies must first apply to become eligible for funding; the deadline is noon on Nov. 12. United Way volunteers will review the agency’s finances and financial control systems, along with how well the agency is managed, and how well it will account for funds donated throughout United Way’s yearly campaign.

After an agency is determined to be eligible for funding, it can apply in February to one of United Way’s four Community Solutions Councils for specific program funding in February.

Volunteers review applications and meet with program representatives in the spring to see how well that program addresses the community goals. They also determine how the effectiveness and efficiency of the program’s services, and the degree of importance of United Way funding for the program to reach its desired goals. The volunteers make recommendations on specific program funding to the United Way board.

Organizations that want to apply for partnership should contact United Way of Mid Coast Maine, 34 Wing Farm Parkway, to obtain a partnership agreement and eligibility application. The organization can be reached at 443-9752.
