BATH — United Way of Mid Coast Maine drew nearly 250 volunteer readers March 2 for its 16th annual “Community Read Aloud,” the organization reported.
The reading, coordinated by United Way’s “Success by 6” initiative, was held at child-care and Head Start centers, and in kindergarten through sixth-grade classrooms, from Brunswick to Waldoboro. The event is part of Read Across America Day, marking the birthday of children’s book writer Dr. Seuss.
About 4,500 children in the Mid-Coast region were read to, according to United Way.
