BATH — United Way of Mid Coast Maine exceeded its fundraising goal by nearly $110,000 and raised pledges of more than $2 million in its annual campaign.

“What a wonderful community we have,” said Dodie Jones, who chaired the campaign with Michael Jones. “What generous people. This is a great testament to people’s willingness to look beyond themselves.”

Bath Iron Works raised a record $822,000. BIW, L.L. Bean and Downeast Energy received United Way’s Outstanding Organizational Support Awards.

The employees of Bath Savings Institution and Bath Savings Trust received the overall Campaign Excellence Award.

“Bath Savings already had an award-winning campaign, and employees increased giving this year by 9.3 percent to over $24,000,” the campaign co-chairs said in a press release. “And what is perhaps most remarkable, out of 141 employees, 136 are donors – 96.5 percent participation.”

United Way of Mid Coast Maine serves Brunswick and Harpswell, as well as communities in Sagadahoc and Lincoln counties.
