PORTLAND — Police departments and other organizations around southern Maine are participating in Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Drugs collected will be incinerated, according to the Maine Sheriff’s Association, which said the event helps protect Maine’s environment by offering an alternative to flushing outdated or unneeded prescription drugs that could enter the water system.

In Portland, locations include the Police Department at 109 Middle St.; Walgreen’s Pharmacy on Allen Avenue; Maine Medical Center, and the Back Cove parking lot on Preble Street.

Also, the South Portland Police Department; Falmouth Police Department, Freeport Police Department; Cape Elizabeth Police Department; Cumberland Police Department; Yarmouth Police Department; Scarborough Police Department; 85 Union St. and 85 Pleasant St. in Brunswick; Bath Middle School; Topsham Town Hall, and the West Bath Fire Department.
