Local outdoor track and field teams saw plenty of each other last week as the regular season came to an end.

Last Monday, Deering played host to Cheverus, McAuley, Portland and South Portland. In the boys’ meet, the Stags came in first by a half-point over the Red Riots. The Rams edged the Bulldogs for third.

Cheverus won both the 1,600 (3 minutes, 35 seconds) and 3,200 (9:10) relays. The Stags got individual wins from junior John White in the shot put (50 feet, 8 inches) and discus (138.6.5), junior Taylor Dundas in the 800 (2:03.4), sophomore Jack Terwilliger in the mile (4:31), junior Andrew Snyder in the 400 (52.4 seconds), junior James Rutter in the pole vault (9-6), and freshman Lukas Temple in the two-mile (10:57).

Deering got a pair of victories. Senior David Hart took the javelin (147-3.5) and junior David Nguyen was first in the triple jump (38-8.5).

For Portland, sophomore standout Imadhi Zagon won the 100 (11.3), 200 (22.7), long jump (20-7) and high jump (6-0).

In the girls’ meet, Cheverus continued its stellar season with a first-place finish. Deering came in second. McAuley was fourth and Portland placed fifth.

For the Stags, sophomore Caroline Summa won the high jump (5-2), triple jump (32-4) and the 400 (1:02.6). Junior Liana Rubinoff was first in the two-mile (12:01). Emily Ford took the pole vault (7 feet). Hanna Lyons and Maressa Champagne tied for first in the long jump (13-9). Junior Ashley Giddinge took first in the javelin (94-8). Cheverus also won the 400 (54.8), 1,600 (4:23), and 3,200 (10:30) relays.

The Rams had wins from senior Brooke Durgin in the 200 (27.5), junior Jane Farrell in the 100 hurdles (17.9), sophomore Britni Mikulanecz in the 300 hurdles (49.5), and junior Claire Ramonas in the shot put (35-0.5).

The Lions got a pair of wins from senior distance standout Olivia Mackenzie, who took the 800 (2:28) and the mile (5:16).

Friday brought the Cumberland County championship meet in South Portland.
The boys’ meet was won by Cheverus, which held off Scarborough for top honors. Deering was seventh by a point over Portland.

The Stags got wins from White in the discus (157-5) and shot put (51-1), Dundas in the two-mile (10:02.25), Terwilliger in the mile (4:31.77), and their 3,200 relay team (8:12.32).

Zagon gave the Bulldogs victories in the high jump (6-0) and long jump (22-8.5).

In the girls’ meet, won easily by Scarborough, Cheverus was second, Deering came in fourth, McAuley was fifth and Portland placed sixth.

The Stags had three event winners: Summa in the high jump (5-0), Hendry in the two-mile (11:39.52) and Lyons in the 100 (12.71).

Mackenzie won the mile for the Lions (5:16.01).

Waynflete wrapped up its regular season Friday at Lake Region, along with Fryeburg and Sacopee. The Flyers were fourth in the both the boys’ and girls’ meets.

Postseason arrives

 All eyes will be on Scarborough High School Saturday for the Southern Maine Activities Association championship meet. Cheverus, Deering, McAuley and Portland will take part. The meet begins at 9 a.m.

Waynflete will compete at the Western Maine Conference championship meet at Yarmouth at 9 a.m.

The Class A state meet is the following Saturday, June 6, at Thornton Academy. Class B’s state meet is at Mt. Desert Island. The Class C meet will be in Bath.
