TOPSHAM — The Police Department is receiving a $125,000 grant for a police officer.
The U.S. Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services awarded more than $650,000 in grants to four Maine police departments, including Topsham’s, as part of the COPS Hiring Program.
The funding provides 75 percent of salary and benefits for an entry-level officer over three years. The funds can also be used to rehire officers who, due to budget cuts, have been or are scheduled to be laid off.
