TOPSHAM — Brandon Shankle is among those boxing in a cancer research charity event in Boston next week.

Shankle, who has trained four months for the occasion, will join 29 other boxers in the fifth “Haymakers for Hope Rock ‘n Rumble” at the House of Blues on Thursday, May 14, at 6:30 p.m.

Haymakers for Hope has raised more than $3.4 million for cancer research, and trained more than 250 participants, providing four months of free boxing training leading up to their first sanctioned amateur match before a live audience, according to an event press release.

Shankle, 34, moved to Topsham in 1990 and graduated from Mt. Ararat High School, where he played baseball and hockey. His father died of cancer and his mother still lives in town.
