TOPSHAM — A doctor faces child pornography charges after being arrested at his Congress Circle home Tuesday.

Dr. David A. York, 59, a physician with Concentra Medical Centers in Augusta and Lewiston, is charged with five counts of possession of sexually explicit materials of children under the age of 12, according to the Maine Department of Public Safety.

York was arrested about 5 p.m. by the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit, with assistance from the Topsham Police Department. He was taken to the Two Bridges County Jail in Wiscasset, and was released Wednesday on bail.

State police Col. Patrick Fleming said the Computer Crimes Unit seized two computers at York’s house, and that preliminary examinations show hundreds of images and videos of child pornography. State police Special Agent Michael McFadden obtained an arrest warrant Tuesday afternoon from West Bath District Court.

Fleming said there are no early indications that any of the images are of Maine children, although the examination of the computers is continuing. Most of the images appear to have been obtained through file sharing with other personal computers around the country, he said.

The case came to the attention of the Computer Crimes Unit in November and is part of a backlog of cases two new investigators are working on, Fleming said.
