TOPSHAM — A Durham woman died from injuries received in a head-on collision March 11.

The Topsham Police and Fire departments responded at 1:39 p.m. to the two-vehicle crash in the 800 block of Middlesex Road, which was closed until about 5 p.m.

Topsham Police Chief Chris Lewis said Christina Babinaw, 44, of Durham, was driving a Toyota Corolla north on Middlesex Road when she apparently veered into the southbound land, striking a Hyundai driven by Bruce Hanson, 65, of Harpswell.

Babinaw and her passenger, Joshua White, 21, of Durham, and Hanson and his passenger, Taylor Hanson, 32, of Harpswell, were all taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where Babinaw died of her injuries. The other three had non-life threatening injuries, Lewis said.

None of the people involved were wearing seatbelts, the chief said, and excessive speed is believed to be a factor.
