TOPSHAM — The 11th annual Tour de Merrymeeting Bay takes place Saturday, Aug. 2., offering 25- and 50-mile bicycle rides around one of the Mid-Coast’s great natural treasures.

Both rides start and end at the Foreside Recreation Fields. Registration for the 50-mile trek is at 7 a.m., with an 8 a.m. start, and costs $50. The 25-milers, who pay $30, register at 9 a.m. and take to their bikes at 10 a.m. Family registration, for three or more immediate family members, is $80 for either ride.

The 50-mile trip features a ride around the lower parts of the Androscoggin and Kennebec rivers as well as Merrymeeting Bay. The shorter version goes along the Androscoggin River and the shores of Merrymeeting Bay and the Kennebec River in Bowdoinham, before returning to the start at Topsham’s Foreside Recreation Fields.

All registered cyclists, who must wear helmets, get a free t-shirt, and can enjoy a complimentary barbecue and music after the ride.

The Tour benefits Topsham’s Head of Tide Park, a conservation project on the Cathance River. Log onto btlt.org/event/tour to register.
