SOUTH PORTLAND — The Maine Department of Labor is offering a support session for workers affected by the sudden closing of two Tim Hortons Cafe & Bake Shop businesses this week.

In addition to the Market Street and Maine Mall shops, Tim Hortons were also closed in Topsham, Lewiston, Augusta and Auburn.

The DOL’s Rapid Response program is slated to hold two informational sessions next week for affected employees. One will be held in Augusta, and the other will be held Tuesday, Nov. 24, at 9 a.m. at the Greater Portland CareerCenter, 151 Jetport Blvd., Portland.

Employers and employees will be advised on their “rights, responsibilities and obligations” in an effort to “safeguard the economic stability of workers and the surrounding community,” according to a DOL press release.

The program will also help determine whether employees are eligible to collect unemployment benefits.
